“They would turn on the radio at our Memorial Day (family) picnics and they would have the Indianapolis 500 on,” Doug Wolfgang said. “That’s what I wanted to be.” Therefore, when Wolfgang won his first of five Knoxville Nationals championships in 1977, he figured his next stop was the Brickyard.
